On October 14, 2008, Sumter County celebrated the renovations to the C-48 bridge to ensure safe crossing over the Withlacoochee River between Sumter and Citrus County's.
Sumter County Fire Rescue will hold its annual Firefighter Recognition and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at the West Central Florida Agricultural Center at the Sumter County Fairgrounds. The Ceremony will include recognition of one member of each Battalion as a "Sumter County Fire Rescue Employee of the Year 2009" and will formally acknowledge promotions and achievements within the department. The Ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The libraries in Sumter County continue to attract the teenage population to libraries through innovative programs like Teen Video Gaming Nights, participation in Teen Advisory Groups (TAGS), and other programs. The libraries will participate again in the Florida Library Youth Program (FLYP) for reading programs and other activities for Sumter County youth in the summer months.
Sumter County is planning to construct 15,286 sq. ft. of new branch library space on CR 139 north of Wildwood as part of the new government complex planned by the County. The new library will serve residents of The Villages, Wildwood, and surrounding areas. Construction is expected to begin in 2010 with planned occupancy by September 2010.
The program is designed to assist with a no cost transportation service for low income individuals to and from their place of employment as well as transportation to and from childcare facilities as part of their work trip anywhere within Sumter County. WRAP riders must meet eligibility criteria: - be a current recipient of welfare, or - former recipient(within the past 2 years), or - annual family income of less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Level - be a Sumter County resident, - be employed in Sumter County, and - the childcare facility must be located in Sumter County.
