Support Services Division staff provides support to the Board of County Commissioners, their employees, and the Constitutional Officers as well as the citizens of Sumter County. Support Services Division includes the following departments and services:
Assessments and Impact Fees Programs – Sumter County currently charges Road and Fire Impact fees in conjunction with all new building permits which are maintained through this program.
County Administration – This department provides direct support to the County Administrator, Commissioners, and Citizens along with agenda preparation, special project administration, committee coordination, mailroom management, travel arrangements, Board meeting preparation and assistance with research on topics related to county policy and/or procedures.
County Budget/Purchasing – The responsibilities include being a point of contact for county budget issues, grant oversight, revenue and expenditure forecasting, monitoring the debt schedule and funds, estimating cash balances, conducting statistical analysis, coordination of bids and proposals, issuing purchase orders and requisitions and overseeing all purchases.
Human Resources – The department coordinates employment activities such as recruitment, interviews, and recommendation of employment, status changes, terminations, performance appraisals, and new hire orientation. The department provides services to all employees of the Board and guidance, information, and assistance to division heads, department heads, and supervisors on personnel matters to insure compliance with Employee Manual, and labor law along with records management and inventory control.
Information Technology – The department provides protection from loss of data and unnecessary downtime caused by hardware and software failures, users of county computers assistance they need to perform their jobs in a timely manner, strive to improve the performance and efficiency of computer operations, strive to uncover new ways to use existing hardware, software, data and personnel to achieve the strategic goals of our county which improves customer satisfaction and quality of service, coordinates all telephone services, maintains both voice data and fiber networks.
Risk Management – The department’s purpose is to administer the Board’s insurance programs and to prevent losses relating to property, liability and workers’ compensation. They are also responsible for administering the employee health plan that insures employees and their family members. They also provide coordination and services for various insurance programs for the Elected Official and Lake/Sumter Emergency Medical Services agencies.
