As of October 1, 2003, all dogs and cats four (4) months of age or older must be licensed in Sumter County. The tags cost $5.00 for sterilized animals (must show proof of sterilization to get discount), and $10.00 for non-sterilized animals.

You can get your license at the Animal Control office in Lake Panasoffkee, all the veterinarians in Sumter County and some veterinarians in Lake and Marion counties.

2008 licenses are available at these locations.
                                     
    As of January 1, 2008 Sumter County Animal License will be available and can be purchased from January 1, to December 31, of each calendar year.

All cat and dog owners residing in Sumter County are required to have a County License for their pet. The owner is required to show proof of rabies vaccination and spaying or neutering of their animal. You are required to purchase a new county license every year on or before the anniversary date of the license you currently have.
