Accepting Applications January 3, 2008 to February 8, 2008
Effective January 3, 2008 through February 8, 2008 the Sumter County Housing Department will be accepting applications to Rehabilitate or Replace existing owner occupied, single family residences which are in need of major repair. CDBG funds are only for homeowners residing in the unincorporated areas of Sumter County (Not within city limits) . Mobile homes are eligible for assistance.
Housing Replacement/Rehabilitation will take place only on units approved by the County and in accordance with grant requirements established by the State of Florida. This program is designed for Single Family Owner Occupied Homes ONLY. Rental housing units will not be eligible under this program. Any violation of local codes on the property being funded, which are not to be addressed with program funding (i.e. nuisance, trash, junk vehicles, etc.) shall be corrected prior to final approval.
A former rehabilitation recipient cannot be assisted for ten (10) years. A former replacement recipient cannot be assisted for fifteen (15) years. Applicants that have only received emergency repairs under non-CDBG programs shall be ranked based on criteria listed below.
NOTE: CDBG funds will be used to replace owner occupied single-family residences first (those which are severely substandard). Homes will only be repaired with CDBG funds in the event that there are a lack of qualified homes in need of replacement or if there are insufficient funds for replacement. The County Housing Department will review applications received to make sure they meet eligibility requirements. Preference will be given to eligible applicants in the order of the Selection Criteria listed below:
- Elderly (age 62 and older), and/or Handicap Head of Household applicants shall be given preference.
- Very Low Income Households
- Low Income Households
- Moderate Income Households
- All other Very Low Income Households
- All other Low Income Households
- All other Moderate Income Households

Assistance will be given on a first come, first serve, first qualified basis. Eligible applicants will be assisted until all funds are fully expended.
Minimum Documentation you will need to turn in with your application:
- Copy of Warranty Deed on your home.
- Copy of your Property Tax Bill showing payments to date (All property taxes must be current).
- Copy of existing mortgage on your home (if one exists).
- Verification of annual income (SSI Statement, Social Security Award Statement, most recent pay-stubs etc.) for each Household Member.
- Copy of Birth Certificate or acceptable proof of age for EACH member of the household.
- Copy of Social Security card for EACH member residing in the household.
- Copy of Driver’s License or other photo identification for EACH adult member of the household.
Applications may be picked up at the Sumter County Housing Department, located at 115 North Florida Street, Bushnell, Florida 33513. Applicants must schedule an appointment to turn in their completed application. No applications will be accepted without a scheduled appointment.
