Impound Process
Animals coming into our shelter are scanned for a microchip then held for a three business day waiting period. Sumter County Animal Control will do everything possible to reunite the animal with the owner.

We have to be contacted within the three business day waiting period. At the end of the third business day the animal will be evaluated for adoptability. After the evaluation process, if it is determined the animal is not adoptable, it will be euthanized.

Lost Pets
If your pet has been lost, contact the Sumter County Animal Control at (352) 793-1470, or you may call the Humane Society / SPCA of Sumter County at (352) 793-9117, their office hours are Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

The Humane Society / SPCA of Sumter County also notifies Animal Control when they receive calls about missing animals.
