Many changes are taking place in Sumter County in the areas of facilities, finances, and coordination. There are several construction projects underway to meet the space needs of the Constitutional Officers and Courts, and to provide services to our growing population. The preparation of the October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011 budget will be another challenging year, primarily due to the downturn in revenues the county is projected to receive. As I go through this process, I will continue to focus on the core mission of the County to ensure the statutory and essential services are met.
The exciting coordination news is the continued progress with the Interlocal Service Boundary Agreements with the Cities. Sumter County currently has an Interlocal Service Boundary Agreement with The City of Wildwood, Webster and Center Hill. The County is continuing to work with the City of Bushnell and Coleman to finalize an agreement. The slow down in the economy does provide a great opportunity to consolidate services with the cities in Sumter County.
Sumter County is working hard to improve roads, the County recently completed the following road projects
Future Road Projects
- CR 476 from CR 616 to the County line
- C-48 East to Beville's Corner
- CR 528
- C-48
In addition to road projects, the Lake Panasoffkee sidewalk project is near completion. Sumter County residents will soon be able to enjoy riding their bikes, walking, and enjoying the beautiful area of Lake Panasoffkee while utilizing the new sidewalks.
