C-48 Bridge Project
C-48 Bridge over the Withlacoochee River Project
The C-48 Bridge over the Withlacoochee River is located 8 miles west of I-75 and 9 miles west of Bushnell. This bridge which joins Sumter and Citrus Counties was first constructed in 1929 and underwent reconstruction in 1952.

Recent monitoring indicates this bridge has an average daily traffic count of 3,797 vehicles and upon receipt of FDOT District 5 bridge inspection report it was determined that there were both "critical state" and "structural' deficient" items which had to be addressed to ensure safe travel.

To accomplish this task, on March 25, 2008, Sumter and Citrus County entered into an Interlocal Agreement to share equally in the cost of design, repair and inspection of the identified items. FDOTKisinger Campo and Associates, and Springstead Engineering worked together with Sumter and Citrus Counties to accomplish the necessary corrective measures.

On June 10, 2008, the project was awarded to Seacoast, Incorporated who submitted a bid in the amount of $106,800.00. Design, repair and inspection were accomplished for a total of $144,445.71, coming in at $190,554.29 under the projected budget of $335,000.00. The end result of this venture has resulted in a safe and beautiful crossing over the Withlacoochee River between Sumter and Citrus Counties.
