Section 8 Program
Sumter County has been awarded Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist fixed-income families in affording decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. The family is free to choose any housing in Sumter County as long as it meets the program requirements.
A family may apply for the Section 8 program during an open application cycle only. After the family applies for the assistance and their completed application is accepted, their name will be placed on the Section 8 waiting list. When funds become available, the Housing Department will contact the next family on the waiting list.
