Powell Road Ribbon Cutting
The ribbon cutting ceremony for Powell Road was held on September 28, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. The ceremony was held in front of the Villages Sumter County Service Center, at 7375 Powell Road, Wildwood, FL 34785.
On July 10, 2009, the Notice to Proceed was issued for the two phases of the Powell Road project. Phase one begins at C-466A and runs approximately 0.60 miles to C-44A. Phase two begins at C-44A and runs approximately 0.51 miles to SR 44. This project is funded through Sumter County Impact Fees at a cost of $8,747,750.00.
The contract for Engineering for Phase one was awarded to Farner Barley & Associates and Kimley Horn & Associates. The Phase two Engineering contract was awarded to Farner Barley & Associates and McDonough Development Services.
The contract for the construction of Phase one was awarded to Steven Counts Construction and the contract for Phase two was awarded to Rainey Construction.
The project consisted of the redesign and realignment of Powell Road. Design included a newly constructed four lane divide highway, with turn lanes, running from C-466A to SR 44. This project also entailed the acquisition of right of way, tree removal, storm water retention improvements and the addition of traffic signals.
