The Department also provides countywide planning, training and exercise programs. Through a cooperative effort, it
develops the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, Continuity of Operations Plan, and Local Mitigation Strategy. These plans provide guidance for how agencies will respond to threats or actual disasters in Sumter County.

The Department manages the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), with support from our local, state and federal partners. The EOC is the central point where disaster recovery efforts are coordinated.

Teaching citizens how to prepare themselves for disasters is critical to the resilience of Sumter County. We routinely provide presentations to student groups, homeowners associations, faith-based organizations, businesses, and various institutions and associations. These presentations focus on disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation techniques. The staff also provides informational brochures and guides centered on disaster preparedness
and prevention. Please contact us if you would like to
have a member of our staff do a presentation for your organization.
