Responsibilities
The Planning Department's main responsibilities are implementing the Sumter County Comprehensive Plan and providing long-range planning and coordination for Sumter County.

Additional Duties
The Planning Department also handles:

  • Population and demographics
  • Floodplain management

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (EECS) Group
Thank you for participating in the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (EECS) for Sumter County project. Sumter County is preparing the EECS as part of a interlocal agreement with the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing grants to local governments to implement energy efficiency and conservation. The DOE is focusing on regional strategies as opposed to single local governments, the MPO is coordinating the efforts of the Sumter County EECS with the Lake County EECS.

The link below will provide a short educational video to explain some of the program funding requirements and selection criteria for individual projects. At the end of the video, you will find a link to the project questionnaire. Do not be too concerned with project details, we are simply trying to get a sense of the number and type of projects under consideration before the meeting on September 24, 2009. You may submit between one (1) and eight (8) projects as you complete the questionnaire. Thank you for participating.
