The GIS department has recently added 1 foot elevations to our website.
<http://sumtergis.com/gis/>

This elevation layer was created by The Southwest Florida Water Management District in 2006 for visualization purposes only.  You can turn on the layer by clicking on the 5’-1’ Contours on the right side of the screen under the layers tab.  You have to start zooming in to see the layer, and at first only the elevations at 5 foot intervals will display and as you zoom in even further, the 1 foot elevations will appear.

If you have any questions about this layer or any of the layers on our website, feel free to contact Brent Young, Stacy Gant, or Kristy Wietan in the GIS department.

Lake Panasoffkee Canal Clean Out Project

Lake Panasoffkee canal dredging operations began in MAY 2007. The dredging consisted of two operations; mechanical and hydraulic. The dredging was complete in April 2008. A total of 40 canals were dredged with a combined total of 28,432 feet of canal cleaned during this time. The Contractor’s demobilization will take from 30 to 60 days and is scheduled to be completed by June 28, 2008.

Sumter County contracted a consulting firm that is currently preparing a study to recommend methods, costs, and funding strategies through a Municipal Service Benefit Unit (MSBU) to maintain canals in the future and to also include canals, spurs, and basins that were not cleaned during this project.
