The Planning & Development Department (Building, Zoning, Code Compliance, Contractor License, & Planning) has moved to a new location - formerly known as the "old" Winn Dixie Building.

Contractor licensing is a function of the Sumter
County Building Department,and is in place to
safeguard the health, property, and public welfare
of Sumter County. Contractors who wish to obtain
building permits in Sumter County may do so if
they hold a State of Florida Certificate of Competency,
or are registered with the State through Sumter
County, or who hold a Sumter County Certificate
of Competency.
The following contractor categories may either
take an examination and be certified through the
State, or take an examination, be approved by Sumter
County, and register with the State:
General
Electrical
Building
Mechanical
Sheet Metal
Residential
Plumbing
Air Conditioning "A"
Commercial Pool/Spa
Specialty Structure
Roofing
Air Conditioning "B"
Residential Pool/Spa
The following categories do not require an examination,
nor do they require registering with the State,
but do require a Sumter County Competency Card:
Carpentry
Concrete/Masonry
Insulation
Carpentry, Finish
Masonry
Painting
Ceramic Tile setting
Dry Wall
Stucco, Lath, & Plastering
Siding
Dry Wall Hanging
Concrete Forming, Placing & Finishing
Concrete Placing & Finishing
Dry Wall Finishing
