The Sumter County Comprehensive Plan was adopted in February 1992 in conjunction with the Future Land Use Map. These documents are the basis of planning in Sumter County and help to guide long-range growth and development.

Elements of the Comprehensive Plan include: Housing, Recreation & Open Space, Conservation, Utilities, Intergovernmental Coordination, Traffic, Future Land Use, and Capital Improvements.

The Future Land Use Map delineates the types and densities of the various land uses and also identifies the incorporated areas of the County.
