The governments of Sumter County and its municipalites want to provide support to businesses whose development will add to the quality of life Sumter County. Public works and tax incentives are two of the ways they provide this support.
 

Sumter County and its municipalities provide a wide variety of support services.

  • Utility Companies: The County is served by Sumter Electric Cooperative, City of Bushnell, Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, and Florida Power Corporation.
  • Public schools accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools make Sumter unique among Florida's small districts.
  • The Sumter County Health Department has offices in Bushnell and Sumterville.
  • Numerous county and city-owned parks, picnic and recreation areas are found throughout the County.
  • Fire and police protection are provided by the Sumter County Sheriff's Department, City Police Departments, and ten Volunteer Fire Departments.

Low taxes and tax credits make Florida and Sumter County extremely attractive areas for commercial development.

  • No state income tax, no state sales tax on lifetime gifts, no personal property tax on automobiles, home furniture, fixtures and appliances, no sales tax on groceries and medicines and no state inheritance tax.
