For more than 40 years, the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) has been the standard-setting organization for emergency dispatch and response services worldwide, and is the leading body of emergency dispatch experts. We are, first and foremost, a member-driven association working to serve the public through the professional development of dispatchers. We’re home to the top leaders, specialists, practitioners, and authorities of the industry. Our various boards and councils work on behalf of the membership—and in coordination with other influential public safety organizations—to ensure that the comprehensive system of emergency dispatching is as safe, fast, effective, and up to date as possible.
In public safety, there are standards that govern the training, tools, and processes personnel use to manage and mitigate any emergency that stands before them. At one time, the exception to this rule was in the area of emergency dispatch. There was no Standard of Practice, no standard for information gathering or for consistently providing life-saving instructions—until the formation of the IAED.
IAED is the only standard setting organization that identified the need for, researches, produces, and maintains standards for emergency dispatch worldwide. It brings experts together from all over the world with specific knowledge and expertise in all areas of emergency dispatch, including medical, fire, police, and now nurse triage.
