Building Services
Mission Statement
The mission of Building Services is to provide a high level of building code compliance for the preservation of life, safety, and the general welfare for the people of Sumter County. This is accomplished through the enactment and enforcement of effective codes and standards to ensure the structural strength, sanitation, fire protection, adequate light and ventilation, and other essential elements of life safety in the built environment. The Building Department accomplishes their Mission with a maximum goal in customer service and efficiency.

Joint Planning Agreements (JPA)
Sumter County has entered into joint planning agreements (JPA) with the City of Wildwood and City of Bushnell. To determine whether property is located within the JPA, please use Sumter GIS. Property located within the JPA may require additional development standards, including annexation into the City of Wildwood or City of Bushnell. If the property is located within the JPA, please contact the City of Wildwood at 352-330-1330 or City of Bushnell at 352-793-2591 for further information.

Online here or come into one of our office at 7375 Powell Rd, Wildwood, FL.
- How do I pay for a permit?

Cash, check, cashier's check, or money order made payable to Sumter County BOCC are accepted in the office.
Debit or credit card payments are accepted for online permits.
- Who can apply for a building permit?

The contractor or owner of the property.
- Can I extend a building permit?

- How long is a building permit valid?

It is valid until 180 days past the issue date or the last approved inspection.
- What is the turnaround time after I submit a building permit application?

Our goal is to process the application within 5 business days for residential permits and 14 business days for commercial permits.

- When will the building inspection be set?

Inspections requested via the Inspection Line at 352-569-1529 before 4:00 p.m. of the preceding business day, or Cityworks online permitting portal here before 8:00 pm of the preceding business day will be scheduled for the following business day.
- Can I find out when during the day my building inspection will be done?

We can only provide an estimated time if you contact the office on the day of the inspection at 352-689-4400.
