The mission of Building Services is to provide a high level of building code compliance for the preservation of life, safety, and the general welfare for the people of Sumter County. This is accomplished through the enactment and enforcement of effective codes and standards to ensure the structural strength, sanitation, fire protection, adequate light and ventilation, and other essential elements of life safety in the built environment. Joint Planning Agreements
Sumter County has entered into joint planning agreements with the City of Wildwood and City of Bushnell. To determine whether property is located within the joint planning area (JPA), please use Sumter GIS Property located within the JPA may require additional development standards, including annexation into the City of Wildwood or City of Bushnell. If the property is located within the JPA, please contact the City of Wildwood at 352-330-1330 or City of Bushnell at 352-793-2591 for further information.

We accept cash, check, cashier’s check, money order or credit card are accepted.
- Who can apply for a building permit?
The contractor or owner of the property.
- Can I extend a building permit?
Yes, please contact the office at 352-689-4400 or email to request an extension.
- How long is a building permit valid?
It is valid until 180 days past the issue date or the last approved inspection.
- What is the turnaround time after I submit a building permit application?
Our goal is to process the application within 5 business days for residential permits and 14 business days for commercial permits.
