All dogs and cats want is a loving, caring home, and nothing tugs at humans' heartstrings more than when they read an adoption story with a happy ending. Zoe and her Family want to share their happy ending with you.
Hi! My name is Zoe. And I have a good story to tell.
I don't want to remember the first year of my life. No one cared enough about me to have me microchipped, or train me, or give me vet care or flea medicine, or even let me indoors.
I didn't like people that much. I don't remember getting any love or kisses. No wonder I was so skittish!
Then one day, Buddy and I were dumped in the woods. It was very scary. I don't know how long we lived there, but I got really hungry and full of fleas and ticks. My friend and I hid in the bushes and didn't know when we would ever eat again.
When we saw two humans, we didn't want to go near them because humans did not make us very happy! But after two days, the food they were offering just looked too good. And they captured us!
But that turned out to be the best turning point of my life.
We were taken to this big building where they paid a lot of attention to us. We saw this nice human who checked us all out. I went to sleep for a special operation, and when I woke up, I had to wear this funny thing around my neck.
One morning, another nice human came to my personal den and carried me out to this big area with a fence around it. And three humans were there to greet me. They seemed very friendly and very happy. I wiggled my butt and peed all over the cement.
They seemed to like me. I was a little nervous, but they made me feel safe and loved. Next thing you know, I am in one of the human's laps, sitting in this big grey machine and going down the highway. I didn't make a single noise. I wasn't sure if this was a good adventure or another scary one.
I've learned a lot since that day.
It was Sumter County Animal Services that rescued me from life as a stray in the woods. And it was a nice couple from Tampa, along with their best friend, who came to adopt me on June 12, 2020. The couple just had to say goodbye to their beloved dog, who had gone to doggie heaven. She was part of their family for 13 years, and they were very sad. When they saw my picture on the website, they didn't care I was skinny and scared. They thought I was pretty.
So they drove a long way to meet me and bring me home.
Home. What a nice thing that is.
The shelter called me "Sky" because I have two pretty blue eyes. But since my humans say I have a lot of Australian Shepherd in me, they changed my name to "Zoe." I think it suits me. My full name is Zoe Scooter Wigglebutt, just so you know.
I had never gone through a door or walked on a leash. I had a few accidents in their house because I wasn't sure where I was supposed to do my business. I was even scared to eat out of an actual bowl! But my humans were very gentle and patient and spent a lot of time working with me, and now I have no problems with any of that stuff. They even scramble me eggs and cook me real chicken to eat several times a week. How lucky can I get!
I also got two new cat brothers. They are quite funny looking, but we have fun chasing each other and sleeping together. They told me they were rescued, too.
I have a really large yard in Tampa to play in, and when my humans drive to their other house in the country, I get to go to the ranch next door and run on 700 acres! My female human has two horses, and I like them very much.
And remember that friend of theirs? He has a big swimming pool full of water, and they all taught me how to swim! I love that. He also has a house in the mountains of North Carolina, and I've already been there for two visits! We will go up there a few times a year.
I've gained six pounds, and now I get my monthly pills, so I don't itch from fleas or have to worry about heartworm. My man human gives me leg massages every day because I am so active. And every night, even though I have a bed of my own, I jump on the bed where my humans sleep and curl upright between them.
I have the best doggie dreams when I'm sleeping. And I can't wait to get up in the morning to see what new adventure awaits me!
Yep, my name is Zoe, and I'm in doggie heaven, right here on Earth.
